We were visitng the island from Oahu and in search of a good quick meal. This place hit the spot! My husband, who is from El Paso Texas, said that the tacos were the best that he ever had. Service was also pretty amazing. The lady at the register took care of an elderly man and even helped my husband with helping him out of the door. I wish that I could justify making that flight back just to eat here again. It's quaint and offers the best Mexican food that we have had on any island in Hawaii.

Great food consistently. Tacos, tostadas, burritos and great salsa. Negro Modelo too and always friendly serivce.

  • Lydia H.

This is usually the place I stop after we land every time. A little salty but still good and I will continue to eat here as usual.

It's ok.. I remember their al pastor being so much better. It was pretty disappointing tonight. The carne asada quesadilla was ok, but it's hard to eff up quesadillas so that's not saying much. Less than stellar experience brought to you by the girl behind the counter. Borderline bitchy to be exact. I mean, I get it, it's a job, you probably don't want to be there but fake it til you make it. She also have us one baby container each of pico de gallo & hot sauce for all the food we ordered. I don't think I'll be back.

  • Erika H.

I wished that they served salsa and chips with their meals!! It would make a huge difference honestly.

  • Marcia P.

This is the best Mexican place in Kona their Carnitas nachos and their al pastor tacos are amazing their seasoning is great and the prices are pretty okay I really like to go there

    (5)
  • David B.

Had chilli releno platter and carne asada nachos.. both were good but a little pricey for this establishment. I also had a margarita but it was way sour, served in a plastic mug and not that good .

    (3)
  • Frank K.

Don't bother leaving a tip. You won't get the slightest thanks, smile or anything. They took out the free salsa bar and now charge $1.50 for a tablespoon of pico de gallo. This was the last trip for me after 5 years of patronage. If you are looking for good food and must eat in this area the Royal Thai place right next door is very good and no snagglepuss's.

I guess once you have had real authentic Mexican food then you have something to compare it to and this was gross

    (1)
  • Roy S.

Great mexican food not just for Hawaii, but anywhere (even San Diego). The low rated reviews surprise me because the food has been good every time I have been there. Authentic, affordable.

    (4)
  • Orlando V.

Not bad, but not great. But compared to everything else around, its probably the better Mexican food you'll find in Kona with reasonable prices.

    (3)
  • Diane E.

Great bean and cheese burrito at a great price.

    (4)
  • Almond B.

The carne asada was of very low quality sadly. In hindsight, I would've preferred ground beef or chicken to it. Also, this was the first chimichanga I've had that didn't have cheese in it. Very dry. Nachos were excellent though.

    (2)
  • Lily T.

Not the best, but still good! It's decent, and I don't know if there are any other on the island.

    (3)
  • Karen S.

Los Habaneros has pretty average Mexican food. The meat seemed low quality, but overall the food was pretty satisfying. Mexican food seems limited on the island so if you're really craving, come here.

    (3)
  • Bob V.

Good Mexican food at a reasonable price for Hawaii. Certainly not like back home in Colorado, I miss their little salsa bar.

    (3)
  • Yvette K.

Average taqueria. No free chips and salsa, in fact there's no salsa bar. Greasy food. Are there any good taquerias in Kona? I doubt it!

    (3)
  • Shawn F.

Good reliable Mexican food. The best I've had on the island. If you're looking for Mexican food in Kona, this is your best bet.

    (4)
  • Veronica H.

I'm by all accounts a picky eater. Being 1/2 mexican I am downright obnoxious when it comes to Mexican food. The chile verde burrito was a pleasant surprise. It was lean meat with no fat and very flavorful. Delicious!

    (4)
  • Ken P.

The food wasn't the best Mexican food that I'd ever had, but it was okay. My one big complaint is that there's nowhere to wash your hands prior to eating food that pretty much requires you to use your hands. Even more odd was the complete bewilderment from the lady at the register at the idea that one would want to wash their hands before eating.

    (2)
  • k k.

Pretty good Mexican food for Hawaii. They do a nice carne asada plate. Gotta ask for the cilantro and onions but comes with everything else.. Fresh and tastes great. Very friendly and helpful staff and the prices are good for Kona. I would recommend this for lunch or dinner to anyone staying around Keauhou. Only draw backs are no where to wash your hands. The restrooms are way down past the movie theater. Also bring cash because they have a stupid 50 cent surcharge to use a card for orders under $20. Otherwise great spot for some tasty Mex.

    (4)
  • Alejandra G.

Food was good close to authentic I would recommend eating here if your in the mood for Mexican!

    (4)
  • Forrest S.

Well, this is better than Chipotle and Taco Del Mar, that is for sure. I am a carnitas connoisseur, and the carnitas here were pretty tasty. I ordered the carnitas burrito and while it wasn't as good as it's food truck counterparts, or as big, it held its own and was far better than at most tex mex joints. They gave me plenty of hot sauce, which I always appreciate, and it was hot as hell. Even better. The employees are friendly, the food came out fast, and the place was clean. It was a little more than I like to spend on a burrito, but this is Kona, so that is to be expected. Damn, they really did have the best carnitas I have had since my endless taco truck, and Mexican hole in the wall joint, carnitas quest when I was back on the mainland. Mmmmm.....I think I need more.

  • Mark S.

In reality, this place should get 3.5 stars but that's not an option here and 3 seemed to harsh. I had three soft shell tacos and two were great. The pork special with pineapple was very good. I also enjoyed the fish taco although I have had better. The asada was ok. For a cheap taco, this is a great place.

  • Francine S.

On our Hawaii vacation, my husband (born in Mexico, raised in Southern California) was craving some yummy Mexican food. We found this restaurant on a fluke as it was close to our resort. We came back two more times as it was yummy and reasonably priced. Margaritas and nachos were delicious! I got the vegetable taco every time. 1 was enough for me to be full and only $3.50 They did the food right. The employees were actually Mexican and the decor was festive. HIGHLY recommend it. **We went to another restaurant claiming to be Mexican (Taco Del Mar) and it was among the worst food I have ever tasted.

    (5)
  • D G.

    Carne asada enchiladas... Yum!

    (4)
  • Al A.

I think the best way to describe the food is hot and Spicy with no flavor. I love hot just want it to be with some flavor. . Most kids will not be able to eat the salsa. I should say most people will not be Able to eat the salsa. Oh!, the service is really poor. If you don't ask several times you will not get. We went behind the counter and got our own napkins because they. Just. Wouldn't bring them.

  • Morrgan j.

Just moved to Kona 3 months ago- I have been here at least 15 times already. Great mexican food with many Veggie options- Nom nom can sit out side or in- order at the counter.

    (5)
  • Mark S.

I have eaten here since 2005 and will never tire of their tasty food. Owner is very friendly and is from Mexico so you are getting some home cooked style of food. Great for the price and best on the island for Mexican food.

    (5)
  • Mike M.

Bland, greasy. I could stop there.... i had the carnitas. About 1/3 of the portion was fat chunks - not small (carnitas is always fatty, but large chunks 1-2 inches across. After pulling out this and some gristle, about 1/2 of the initial pork was left. I didnt think it was particularly flavorful, and couldn't help but notice the oil running everywhere. My gf had the grilled fish - it did taste good but was dripping with oil. Two stars since hers at least tasted good...

    (2)
  • Aaron M.

Their food is fine. Not great, but not bad. The prices are probably about double what you'd expect in the mainland for a burrito shack. But, for Kona, it isn't too bad Mexican food.

    (3)
  • Teri G.

All 4 of us loved everything! Burritos and salsa were great!

    (4)
  • Jennie H.

We stopped here on the recommendation of a friend that used to live in the area, and were hoping to dine in for lunch, but our son fell asleep in the car on the way here, and we didn't want to wake him at prime nap hour. I had a carne asada burrito to go during out trip to the BI. It was a little after peak lunch time, and the restaurant wasn't very busy. I ordered the burrito for myself and the fish tacos for my husband, who was waiting in the car with our sleeping kid. Within ten minutes I was out the door with a heavy pile of food and two small containers of hot salsa. I loved my burrito. It reminded me of the burritos I'd get when living in Portland, and hit the spot, as I haven't found something comparable on Oahu (yet). My husband liked his tacos, but I had to scrape off the sour cream for him (oops!). The bite I tried was good...the fish wasn't too dry and was well seasoned. We'll definitely come here again when we are back on island!

  • Michelle G.

This was pretty authentic. I used to live in the Mission district of SF so I know what good Mexican food is. Everything is a bit spicy so just be prepared if you're sensitive or don't care for spicy food. It is still worth going to though. The food is very reasonably priced. Sour cream and guacamole is extra and they don't give you chips to go with the salsa but it was still really good food.

    (4)
  • Jack M.

The food is average, for some reason I got the runs from it.

    (2)
  • Shinkaku S.

Had an excellent Veggie Burrito Wet...smothered with green chilies...and Mabel is the best.

    (4)
  • Kaius G.

Loved this place! We're from the San Francisco Bay Area, so I know what good mexican food tastes like and this place is great. Real vegetables in the vege burrito. Peas and carrots in the rice. Hot sauce was delicious, warm chips. Will be back for sure!

    (4)
  • Shawn P.

Lots of real positive reviews, so we went by today for lunch after a day at the beach... Pretty freakin good... carnitas were great.... salsa was decent.... mild better than hot, which was lacking flavor and heat, but no real complaints. We will be back for sure, lucky to have good mexican in the new neighborhood..

    (4)
  • Keri F.

I like this place because it's got good atmosphere, friendly people, and very cheap prices. The portions arent gigantic, but it does the job. It's a cool place to stop for lunch, or grab dinner before a movie at the Keauhou theater. The prices make the food worth it.

    (3)
  • Dede T.

Our favorite Mexican food in Kona. Love the atmosphere and Armando the owner!

    (4)
  • Jene' G.

We love Habaneros! They have great Salsa (which is important to me) as well as Veggie and Non-dairy options! They are also locally owned and the staff is all so nice! we probably eat here too much! lol Favorites: Veggie taco salad and the Bean, Rice and Avo burritos... mmmm...

  • Keakua k.

We live locally, originally from Southern California, and love and miss the Baja style Mexican food.. On an island that has very little Mexican food and none that is very good or has that "Taco Shop" authenticity...this is pretty close. The food is really good, prices are in line, a bit high for taqueria grinds, but much lower than the touristy spots, and totally worth the price for the experience. Good bottled beer selection, clean place, clean and kind service. Highly recommend.

    (4)
  • Heather C.

Good tacos, especially great after a long day at the beach. Lots of mexican beers, plus some local Kona Brewing Co beers as well.

    (4)
  • suzy f.

Let's face it, they're lots of different kinds of Mexican food out there and it's hard to agree on what's the best. If you're looking for truly "authentic" Mexican food then go to Mexico. But if you are on the big Island and are looking for something quick, tasty and inexpensive this is a good bet. I like to call this "hole in the wall" Mexican food. You order at the counter, get your food on a tray, bus your own table and you're on your way back to the beach.

    (3)
  • Havana H.

Decent Mexican food- nothing spectacular but no complaints either. Beats Taco Bell!

  • Lisa L.

After a drive to check out a supermarket..we stumbled upon this restaurant along with a subway, crepe restaurant and Thai restaurant. I quickly checked the reviews on Yelp..and all were good so opted for Mexican. You go to the counter to order and the pick it up when cooked. Menu is on the wall. We ordered a chicken burrito which was very good and a vegetable quesadillla. I, the vegetarian, had the quesadilla. They use a premix of zucchini, onion, and other vegetables. I am not an onion fan, but as the vegetables came premixed, I had to eat it. However, there was so few onions and they were cooked in so it did not bother me at all. The meal was very good. I had mine with cheese, but you could order it without. Staff is very pleasant and place is very clean. They have a selection of three types of desserts and various beers including some brewed in Hawaii. Prices were reasonable for Kona. Location is great as you have the KTA market and Longs drugstore nearby for shopping. We would definitely eat here again.

  • Tom T.

We ate here twice on our trip, and loved it. Reminded me of the better taco stands in California. I had the grilled fish tacos, tacos al pastor, and my favorite, the chile verde pork. My wife had a grilled ahi fish wrap with papaya and pineapple salsa (fantastic) and a somewhat bland, but filling, fish and black bean burrito. Taco bell, really? Lets put it this way, if you ever eat at Taco Bell, you dont know good mexican food, or you would rather go hungry.

    (5)
  • Michelle C.

As the says on yelp "Meh. I've experienced better."...At Taco Bell. Haha. This place is not stellar mexican food. If you are a Vegetarian like me however one plus is that you can eat here. I think the refried beans must be instant... I did not worry that they may have lard in them cause they just didn't have enough flavor for that. I got a Tostada and it was like a big chip with beans, iceberg lettuce and a little scoop of sour cream and guac. My boyfriend got the bean and cheese burrito which he has told me tasted like it was just out of the can. The chips there were pretty good so if you just want a beer and some chips after a long day on the beach enjoy, but if you have a craving for Mexican food go somewhere else. :)

    (2)
  • Dee T.

Everything I ate was utterly bland and unmemorable. I'm upset that I wasted a meal out on this place...should have gone to Peaberry & Galette next door instead.

  • Chrissy B.

Habanero's is an inexpensive Mexican restaurant in Keauhou, HI. I discovered this place thanks to my handy dandy Frommer's travel book. It's not the best Mexican food on the big island. In fact, I tried a Taqueria in Waimea, HI that was to die for. However, every single item at Habanero's is under $8.00, which means a lot when you're spending all of your money on vacation in Hawaii! It's a good place to stop for breakfast before a busy day of sightseeing or for dinner after a long flight.

    (3)
  • C B.

This place used to be great, but it has gone downhill. We ate here last night because we needed a quick and inexpensive meal. The burritos are good sized, but bland and too expensive for such mediocrity ($25 for two burritos, two sodas, and one order of chips). The burritos were large but lacked flavor. The chips were stale and cold, but edible once we added salt and salsa from the ample fresh salsa bar. The food, staff, and ambiance were all "okay," but the only thing impressive was the expense.

    (2)
  • Greg V.

Had good Hawaiian food and fresh seafood all week while on vacation on the Big Island, so I had to destroy myself once. Came to this joint and the carne asada burrito hit the spot. I'd recommend this place for simple, good Mexican food.

  • Zachary D.

The food is ok and an easy option for the price and location, and I want that to be clear. But, one of the ladies behind the register has a permanent grumpy cat face and treats customers as if we are an inconvenience for her and not the reason why she has a job scribbling down orders. 9/10/15 - Also, just went there and waited to place my order (stood there for 5 minutes) and watched as the cook did his thing and eventually went to let someone know there was a customer upfront. Ms. Grumpy Cat finally appeared from the back, to then yell "negro frijoles" really loud so the table outside could come in and get their order. I assumed she would now take my order, no she does some sort of back and forth thing behind the counter, looks at me, and then walks out from the counter to go grab something off of a table. Mind you, there isn't a pressing need for table space at all, and maybe she could've said "Hello" or "I'll be just a second". So I raise my hands up and turn to leave, as I do, I bump into Ms. G.C. and she looks at me like I've done this on purpose. To which I respond with a very colorful word and leave the establishment. I've eaten at this restaurant since it opened, I will no longer support either location. On top of that we just hired Los Habaneros for our end of summer company party and I only wish this would've happened sooner so we could've made other arrangements for food. Very Disappointed

  • Denni P.

Delicious, best Mexican in Kona. We stumbled across this place when we were heading to Sam Choy's and they were closed for a private party. Glad we did, had a great meal at half the price. I had the carnitas tostada and my husband had the chili verde. Good value, good quality food. Will come back!

Quickest burrito in town Authentic Lively fun staff who are quick to smile Decent prices and convenient location with tons of easy parking

  • Paco A.

Came here with low expectations considering I just got back from New Mexico and had some really great Authentic Mexican food there. But I gave it a try since a friend recommended it. I must say I was surprised on how nice the staff was and actually took my order in Spanish. I had the carnitas burrito the first time and it was a supersize portion. I didn't even finish it. On my second visit had two different staff working but service was just as good as first time. I had the Carne Asada plate on my second visit and must say it was very filling oh and not to mention the spicy sauce was actually spicy LOL. But was spicy yet can still taste the flavors and spices that was out into the carne Asada. Very very delighted and glad that I stopped by on my trip here.

  • Valerie S.

I had carne a sada. It was a little tough. My husband had cAnitaa and that had a good deal of flavor and was tender. I wanted chicken but they didn't have any. The atmosphere was great.

  • Renna S.

All right, Hawaii is notorious for having terrible Mexican food. Good thing I'm not a Mexican food snob. If you want good food and good size portions, come here. You've got a decent variety to choose from - tacos, burritos, chimichangas, enchiladas, etc. Meat options are generally chicken, carnitas (pork), carne asada (steak), or ground beef. Many plates come with rice and beans to round out your meal. My faves here are the veggie enchiladas - zucchini, tomato, onion, and mushrooms - and the chicken nachos.

Mexico!!! I'm from California originally, home to I believe the best authentic Mexican food in the world outside of Mexico. Habaneros is my favorite taco night west of the big island. Carnitas tacos are BOMB!!! Burritos are good, nachos are good, my wife likes the chile verde, and fish tacos. Kinda expensive, but worth it. Expect $10-15 per person. Good ample parking, big easy to read menu with lots of photos, and they serve beer and margaritas. Only bummer is no salsa bar. You have to ask for onions, cilantro, salsa and sour cream. Lunch and dinner gets busy but they are very quick. Don't be afraid of a line here. You will be eating in 5 minutes max. Bueno!!!

  • Harry K.

We are fanatical fish taco fans. Everywhere we travel we seek them out. Dukes in Waikiki are the best ever bar none! Merriman's Monkey Pod Cafe on Maui & Oahu do a fine job too with creamed avocado whipped on top. These are NOT that. Corn tortillas came of greasy and not cooked properly. The seared ahi fish filling was also dull and lacked flavor. Frozen fish for sure. Haven't found Em here on Big Island yet! Any tips??

  • Konascene.net K.

Got the carne plate, nachos and enchilada. The carne resembles a tough rubbery tasteless shoe. The chips used for the nacho chips were really really stale and not much to them as far as seasoning goes. Out of everything we ordered the beans had the most flavor and sadly I'm willing to bet those beans were canned. Lastly they forgot to give me my extra ordered condiments-a tablespoon of sour cream in which I was over charged for and never received...

  • Helene A.

I guess we found the place that the locals eat. We came in here on a Friday at noon. The place was packed and six people were waiting in line to order food at the counter. The menu is way less expensive than other restaurants we have been to in the area. Portions are generous. We had shrimp enchiladas ($12.95) which came with rice, beans, a scoop of guacamole and a scoop of sour cream. Also, the shredded beef burrito ($7.99) which came with rice and beans. Food was as good as most Mexican chain restaurants like Chi Chi's. Service was pretty quick.

    (4)
  • Randall S.

Best Mexican we've had in Kona so far. And better than most Mexican we get in Canada. The chile verde is excellent. Very good value overall. It is SUPER casual...counter service.

    (4)
  • Jessica E.

Bland Mexican food. Waited ten plus minutes just to place order in line (one cook and one cashier) and only two couples were in front of us. Probably waited 10-15 min for food to be prepared. Very bland. Could pour a cup of salsa on top to have some flavor. I'd rather eat chips and salsa at home ... Or Taco Bell. Don't bother. Sorry Los Habaneros... No me gusta.

    (1)
  • AgelessWonder A.

Place has never disappointed me..., only if there completely slammed!! (Sometimes theres ONLY 2-3 people working) Been coming here for years. My food always come pretty quick and tasty!! Too bad some people's food aren't perfect but hey its fast food..!! My steak fajitas ALWAYS have a good meat & veggie's 50/50 ratio. Oh well....

    (4)
  • Francisco C.

The tables have chillies, rice, beans and other stuff under the glass. It is nice. They could use a bit of ventilation while cooling the meals. Other than that it is a good place to grab a quick meal. Food is very tasty - flavored is good but for me I was in need of some salt. The beans I could not tell if they are homemade style or from the can.. So that's good.

  • Claudia R.

Being Mexican and living in LA, my expectations were pretty low. I mean, did I come to Hawaii to eat Mexican food? Of course not, but sometimes you just gotta have Mexican. I had a chile relleno burrito and the boy had a chicken burrito. It was ok. Not a ton of flavor, but a good effort. We did take out here so our only service was the girl at the register, She didn't seem to be too enthused to be working that night.

    (2)
  • Harry A.

Not that good. Needs some help in front and kitchen. A couple of better spots can be found. Tacos passable,

    (2)
  • Ted S.

We were working in the area and decided to eat here. I had the special shredded beef burrito, it was broke da mouth Ono. The burrito was packed to the gills with all kinds of veggies, the shredded beef was very flavor full and tender. I gotta admit I was a wimp and used my knife and fork to eat it as it was big and didn't want to get my clothes messy.

    (4)
  • Lulu Y.

Food is not edible!! Loaded with grease. The baked beans are the only thing that tasted ok. Don't eat here...

We're from San Diego & now live on the Big Island. This is the best Mexican place we've found on the Island, altho' it's pricy compared to SoCal. We often make special trips for bulk quantities of the hot salsa, so we can take it home & put it on our homemade Mexican dishes. Really good hot salsa! When we pick up to go items @ Habanero's, it's usually the black bean & cheese burrito, carne asada burrito & quesadilla. Really good food, similar to the style you get near the San Diego border crossing. Very casual, you walk up to the counter to order & sit @ a table of your choice, inside or outside. Margaritas & beers are available. Much cheaper than their new fancy place in Kona, at the old Tres Hombres location.

  • Netty D.

Good food, but not very friendly! The blond lady at the register acted as if she would rather be somewhere else and was not paying attention when we were ordering. Not the Aloha spirit at all!

    (4)
  • Toby S.

Definitely the best Mexican food in Kona. Portions are large and carne asada is authentic Mexican style. Service is always friendly and you never have to wait very long. Only down side is comparing to Southern California it is pricier than I would like.

    (4)
  • Amber D.

BEST MEXICAN FOOD in Kona. I've never been disappointed with ANYTHING I've ever ordered. Constantly impressed by the flavors of everything on the menu! The staff is really sweet and friendly too!

Didn't even get to try the food, no workers decided to show up on time! Really bummed ...super unprofessional :(

  • Raymond L.

I came here just a few minutes before they closed. The gal that was working was accommodating and was helpful. She quickly go to our order and was helpful, although by the time our ordered was fulfilled, she didn't rush us out and took the time to make sure that we had sufficient napkins and plastic utensils. The food was well packed and was thoroughly enjoyed when we got home. I ordered some quesadilla and tacos. The portions are generous and good for sharing.

  • Mary C.

Below average. Was hoping it improved since the last time I went. Nope. Ordered the pork chimichanga with a side of rice and beans. Two words: soggy, greasy. Zero crunch and very little flavor. No bottled hot sauce in the place. You get about an once and a half of salsa with very little heat although the cashier said it was their hottest. The rice and beans? Pedestrian. The only plus for this dish wash it was served temperature hot. My husband ordered the chile relleno. He liked it but to me it looked unappetizing. Glopped on the plate co-mingled with rice and beans. I tried it. Mushy. Blah. Had better at Taco Bell. Two stars. One for the food being served temperature hot; the other for the atmosphere.

Did I come on the wrong day or order the wrong thing? I came mid-afternoon and had a lousy experience. I ordered chicken enchiladas, and the whole experience was mediocre at best. The girl behind the counter was very unfriendly, and seemed very put out when I asked for not one but two salsas.

Many vegatarian items on menu ... with mushrooms. .. that is how cook it at home. Gps is wrong it's in the north end of shoping center by movie hose and subway.

My innate mexicanosity gets the better of me once again.... What kind of an idiot goes to a beautiful island and actively searches for tacos? That. would be ME. After ingesting half a sandwich and attempting to drink a 64oz growler of Pale Ale from Kona brewing co....I happily skipped/stumbled to this place for a pre dinner snack....and more beer. I scan the menu and decide on PORK and PORK and a light Corona....cuz I'm watching my girlish figure. AL PASTOR TACO yelp.com/biz_photos/JPdV… Tender, juicy, marinated strips of slightly sweet but tangy pork...topped with freshly chopped onions, cilantro wrapped up in warm tortillas. VERY good al pastor, VERY pleasantly surprised. SALSA VERDE PORK CHOP TACO yelp.com/biz_photos/JPdV… Good quality pork smothered in a spicy salsa verde...unfortunately it was bastardized with some lettuce and shredded cheese. Again, surprisingly....pretty damn good. OK. Now I'm ready for dinner...and more beer.

The 'mahi' tacos were by no means Mahi. If it was somehow actual Mahi, it had to be frozen, boiled, refrozen, reboiled nuggets of fish. Super weird mystery fish. Stale taco shells. Not worth the visit.

After 4 visits trying different things I am thoroughly unimpressed! Food was not. grilled to order...All in warming trays. The Pork Carnitas and the salsa rank up with the worst I have ever tried! There is zero habanero flavor or heat at habeneros restaurant!! Totally weak Mex food! I hope the owner uses a different business model and revamped/tasty food at the new location where Tres amigos was. Kona deserves better.

I had the cheese enchilada plate with rice and beans. The enchiladas were cold with grated cheese inside and out that was not at all melted. The green sauce tasted like a box of salt had been spilled into it. When I took it back and told the girl what was wrong, she smiled the whole time and said "Oh really we will check it out Thanks " no apologies no refund no replacement. I would not eat here again.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
